The NFT Instagram integration

Why Instagram’s adoption of NFT technology is such a big deal.

Up until fairly recently, the most visible aspect of the NFT technology came from the collector space. Thousands and thousands of PFPs collections, in some cases hyped beyond reason, eclipsed the other side of the NFT technology: The one that provides utility to consumers and will arguably revolutionize the internet.

We don’t mean to imply that displaying a Non Fungible Trophy on a social media platform is going to lead to the next tech revolution, but it will definitely provide objective utility to NFTs beyond demonstrating ownership of a given collectible. It will make it easier for winners on any advertising festival, to bring attention to themselves strictly for their professional accomplishments. Keep in mind, winning in some of these competitions is a career changer event for some people, And yes, if this helps token holders do some humble bragging in a social gathering here or there, that’s fine with us too! #BraggingRights

Now that we’ve covered WHY it’s important, let’s actually see HOW you can do it:

Activating the “Digital Collectibles” feature.

First thing you’ll need to do is; from your profile tab on your phone, go to the three lines on the top right of the Instagram app. There you will find the option “Digital collectibles”

Once you click it, you’ll be prompted to connect your digital wallet. Which means you’ll need to have your digital wallet downloaded to your phone and the NFTs you want to show on Instagram synchronized with the phone version, which is NOT hard to do, but requires certain steps. Good thing we covered them on this article here 😉

Adding your wallet

The integration allows connections to the main wallets out there, including Rainbow, MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet and Dapper Wallet. The supported blockchains are Ethereum, Polygon and Flow, with Solana to come next.

Displaying your NFTs

The process from there, at least in our experience, is pretty glitch-less.

Instagram allows you to choose what tokens you want to display underneath the NFT hexagon option and even which of those you’d like to show on your feed. So far it seems like it doesn’t allow to share NFTs with video to the feed. But hopefully, that will change in the future.

Knowing that everybody, from your next date, to a potential employer, scan the social channels of any potential candidate. This integration provides an opportunity to share not only the incredible cuteness of your pet, or the mouth watering nature of your breakfast. But also, an aspect of your professional life that can potentially help you advance your career, or, why not give a little push to your romantic life.
